1. Shake it: Amsterdam Salsa Festival | It may be a bit chilly outside, but you’re sure to feel the heat at the 7th annual Amsterdam Salsa Festival from 7 to 9 February 2014. The festival promises three packed days of dance workshops, performances by Dutch and international dancers at the Rhone Congress & Party Centre.

2. Go Green: De Kas | Meaning ‘Green House’ in Dutch, this restaurant is housed in an enormous glass house: one half for dining, the other for growing the fruit and veg that end up on your plate.

3. Raw & Ready: Raw Materials | At Raw Materials you will find unusual furniture, interior accessories, and decorations. All products are unpolished, weathered, used, recycled, made from natural materials or simply old. It breathes new life into the old term ‘shabby chic.’

4. French Fancy: Restaurant Neuf | Traditional French Bistro located in the lovely Haarlemmerstraat District. Open daily for lunch & dinner.

5. Chocolate Fix: Pompadour Amsterdam | Chocolatier, tea room and lunch spot. A tempting array of artisan chocolates, complemented by a delightful tea room and light lunch menu serving salads, sandwiches and quiche.

Global Gastronomy: & Samhoud Places | The globally inspired dishes at this two Michelin starred restaurant transport diners to the riviera, tropics, or nearby Bloemendaal depending on which ingredients capture chef Moshik Roth’s fancy. Roth is a name in molecular gastronomy, so expect foams and other twists and turns that transform the plate and delight the palate.

Wander-ful!: Marcel Wanders: Pinned Up at the Stedelijk | The Stedelijk Museum presents the largest ever exhibition of work by revered Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, acclaimed for his contemporary furniture, interior design and art direction - you can even find some of his work around Canal House. The exhibition runs from 1 February to 15 June 2014.

House Party: Wonderland Festival | Your Valentine’s weekend needn’t only be about romance in 2014, as those with a passion for dance music may prefer the rumbling house and techno beats on offer at the Wonderland Festival. This multi-venue affair on Saturday 15 February 2014 takes over the Westergasfabriek’s Tranformator house, as well as adjacent party spots Westerunie and Westerliefde.

9. Spanish Rose: Hollandaluz | See, smell, taste and experience the best of Spain in the heart of Amsterdam. Fresh tapas, intense wines and exclusive Pata Negra sit alongside hand painted ceramics, tiles and crockery from Andalusia – a treasure trove of Spanish culture!

10. Strings Attached: Pop Arts Festival | Contrary to what you may expect, the annual Pop Arts Festival presents the latest developments in the world of international puppet and object theatre, dance, mime and visual artistry. The festival returns to Amsterdam from 1 to 10 February 2014.
